How to play
Move your mouse or finger to steer. Eat dots and smaller blobs to grow. Avoid bigger red blobs.
About Blob Arena
Blob Arena drops you into a big square arena as a small green blob with one ambition: get bigger. Eat the coloured dots scattered around the floor, swallow any blob smaller than you, and keep well away from anything larger. It is a single-player take on the grow-and-eat arena games, with eight computer-controlled rivals for company.
How to play
Move your mouse, or touch and drag on a phone, and your blob travels in that direction. The further the pointer is from the centre of the screen, the faster you go, up to your top speed. The view follows you around an arena that is much larger than the screen, with a thin outline marking its edge.
Around a hundred and fifty dots are spread across the floor, and new ones appear as fast as they are eaten. Each dot makes you a little bigger. Your current size is shown in the corner.
The other blobs are colour coded, and this is the most useful thing in the game. Grey blobs are smaller than you. Red blobs are bigger. If you overlap a blob that is clearly smaller, you absorb it and take on its whole mass in one gulp. If a clearly bigger blob catches you, the game is over and a tap starts you again at the smallest size.
Blobs of about the same size cannot eat each other. One has to be roughly a tenth bigger than the other before anything happens.
How the rivals behave
The other blobs wander about eating dots and growing, just as you do. When you come near, they react. A bigger blob turns and chases you. A smaller one turns and runs. They only notice you from fairly close range, so you can often slip past a red blob at a distance without it caring.
When you eat a rival, a new one appears somewhere else in the arena at a random size. The arena never empties, and a brand new arrival can be bigger than you expect.
Size has a price
The bigger you are, the slower you move. A small blob is nimble and can outrun almost anything. A large one lumbers. The same is true of your rivals, which gives you two rules to live by.
While you are small, you are faster than the red blobs. If one starts to chase, run in a straight line and it will give up. Do not run into a corner, because the walls are solid and a corner is the one place a slow blob can trap a fast one.
Once you are large, the small grey blobs are quicker than you, and chasing them across open floor is a waste of time. Catch them against a wall or in a corner, or leave them and eat dots.
Growing quickly
Dots are safe and steady. Rivals are the jackpot. In the early game, graze on dots in a quiet part of the arena until a few blobs turn grey, then hunt the largest one you can safely eat. Colours change as you grow, so keep glancing at blobs you were avoiding a minute ago.
Who it is for
Blob Arena suits anyone who likes a game with a bit of cat and mouse. A run can last seconds or many minutes, and no two go the same way.
It plays free in your browser, on phones and computers alike, with no download.
