About Bubble Pop
Bubble Pop is a tapping game set somewhere under the sea. Bubbles rise from the bottom of the screen, some big and slow, some small and quick. Pop them with a tap before they float off the top. Let five get away and the game is over.
How to play
Tap or click a bubble to pop it. Each one is worth a point. A new bubble appears at the bottom a little under twice a second, at a random spot, and drifts straight up. They come in different sizes and move at different speeds.
Every bubble that reaches the top of the screen unpopped costs you a life. You start with five, and the counter sits next to your score. When the last life goes, the game stops and a tap starts a fresh one.
One tap pops one bubble. If two overlap under your finger, only one of them goes, and you will need a second tap for the other.
What makes it harder
At first, the bubbles are in no hurry. You will have time to pop each one almost as it appears. But every bubble that joins the game is slightly faster than those that came before, and the increase never stops. After a minute or two the quickest ones cross the screen in a few seconds, and you can no longer deal with them one at a time as they arrive.
The number of bubbles arriving does not change. What changes is how long each one stays, so the screen is not more crowded later on, only more urgent.
How to last longer
Pop bubbles low. The earlier you get to a bubble, the more time you have for the next one. If you find yourself tapping near the top of the screen, you are behind, and one small mistake will cost a life.
Sort them by danger, not by size. Big bubbles are tempting because they are easy to hit, but a big slow bubble near the bottom can wait. A small one racing up the side cannot. Before each tap, ask which bubble will reach the top first.
Speed is not tied to size. Do not assume the small ones are the fast ones. Watch how each is moving.
Keep your taps accurate. A miss does not cost a life directly, but while you are tapping the same bubble twice another one is climbing.
On a touchscreen, use two hands when it gets busy. One thumb for each half of the screen means neither has far to go. With a mouse, try to move in short hops between neighbours, clearing one side and then the other, instead of zig-zagging across the full width.
Scores
Fifty or so is typical for a first game. A hundred means you coped well as the pace rose. A hundred and fifty takes real composure in the late stages, when everything is quick.
Relaxing, until it is not
The first half minute of Bubble Pop is almost restful, which makes it a nice one for younger players. Then it slowly turns into a proper test of nerve. Games are short, and the gradual build makes each one feel like a little story with a beginning, a middle and a slightly frantic end.
